Scriptures used: Luke 14:7-11; 15-26; 2 Corinthians 5:21; John 19:30; Matthew 5:3

  • Coming to the table is not just an invitation to come meet your need for food, for self-fulfillment, it’s also about connection, relationship and growth.

  • Jesus' invitation is an invitation to us all.
It’s an invitation to anyone who is not in a relationship with Him, who doesn’t know what following Him is all about.
An invitation to those who feel far from Him.
An invitation to those who have left the table to come back to the table.
An invitation to grow more and more in your relationship with Him.

  • The best of all we experience in this life now, the fellowship, friendship, worship, all of this is just appetizers before the main course at the eternal party in Heaven. Are you ready for it? There’s only one way to get there.

  • This invitation that Jesus is giving is so serious that it outweighs anything else going on in our life, even our most intimate relationships and passionate commitments.

  • The weight of Jesus' invitation to follow Him is so serious that He sealed it with His life.

  • Don’t be apathetic in your search for whether there’s a God. Don’t be apathetic in living out the faith you claim to have. Understand the weight of the invitation to follow Christ. It’s the most important invitation you will ever receive!

  • There’s nothing that equals the importance of knowing Christ. There’s nothing in your life that justifies ignoring God’s invitation to come.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Are you the type of person that likes to receive invitations or do you not like to receive them?

  • How do you view Jesus' invitation to follow Him?

  • Do you believe you follow Christ to the level He has asked, where you allow nothing else to matter more than Him in your life? Why or why not?

  • What would be your next step in regards to Jesus invitation?

Jesus often used meals to engage with people and teach important lessons. And he continues to call us to his table to dine, feasting on who he is and learning more about him through the Word. His example provides an opportunity to invite friends, outcasts, and even enemies to know God’s story of love and salvation—whether you’re a host or a guest.
