Scriptures used: Genesis 5:3, 23-24; 6:5-6, 8-9; 7:16; 8:1, 21-22; Hebrews 9:27; 11:7; 2 Peter 2:5; 3:9; Matthew 24:37-39
Passages referenced: Genesis 5-9

  • Don't put greater value on external cultural progress than you do internal moral progress.

  • Sin is internal - it’s a matter of the heart. Sin is pervasive - it grows. Sin is persistent - it never stops chasing you. This is why apart from the grace of God we are lost.

  • God created everything out of love and love is at the heart of everything thing God does. Out of God’s love he will also bring justice.

  • God’s justice does not negate God’s love.

  • Your walk with God matters more than the amount of days you live. The only way to overcome sin and death and God’s judgement is to walk with God and in His grace.

  • Noah walked with God, he worked for God, He witnessed for God, He waited on God and he worshipped God.

  • How people respond to the sin and embarrassment of others is an indication of their character.

  • Love doesn't cleanse sin, only the blood of Christ can do that. Love doesn’t condone sin, because love wants God's very best for others. Love does cover sin in order to bring healing from sin. It doesn't go around exposing it and encouraging others to spread the bad news.

  • We often take the time to plan our days. The most important day you can plan is your last. Most everyone of us do not know when that day will be, so it’s best to plan it now. Don’t take for granted God’s patience.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • After digging into the story of Noah and what was happening, how does what you see from this story impact you?

  • How does God's decision to flood the earth because of wickedness affect the way you understand God's view of evil?

  • How does God's extension of grace and mercy to Noah and his family offer you hope?

  • Peter called Noah a "preacher of righteousness." What kind of importance do you put on making people aware of the judgement of God and the value of his grace? How does your answer challenge you or encourage you?
