Scriptures used: Mark 12:13-27, 29-31; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 7:23; 1 Peter 1:18-19
Passages Referenced: Matthew 22:15-33; Luke 20:20-47 ; Deuteronomy 25:5-10; 2 Timothy 3:5; Philippians 3:10

  • The only way to come to Christ is to come to him honestly. You can't hide your heart from Christ. Being honest with him is being honest with yourself.

  • Ignoring God and going our own way is only a way to bondage.

  • All other relationships pale in comparison to our relationship with the Father and the Son.

  • We cannot allow ourselves to be ignorant of God’s word and God’s power.

  • There are two forces that unite people. Those forces are love and hate. Love unites people for the common good and hate unites people with the goal to destroy. We are called to be united around the love of God.

  • God doesn't call out things in your life in order to rob you of life, but better yet to transform your life and bring you abundant life, ridding your life of the things that are actually robbing you.

  • The love of Christ and everything that represents him and his ethos is what compels us.

  • The only thing we should owe to one another is love, and as we love each other we will fulfill the law of God.

  • If you abandon yourself to your cause, you are worshiping your cause, not God. Abandon yourself to God and let him work through you in your causes.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • What are the differences between people who are motivated around an issue by love versus when they are motivated by hate?

  • What qualities should you be aware of to warn you if you are motivated more by hate than love?

  • Causes are good, but when can you know that you've abandoned yourself more to your cause than you have to God?
