Scriptures used: Matthew 28:18-20; Philippians 3:17; 1 Corinthians 11:1; Deuteronomy 3:28
“The Great Commission is not merely to go to the ends of the earth preaching the gospel, nor to baptize a lot of converts, nor to teach them the precepts of Christ, but to ‘make disciples’—to build men like themselves who were so constrained by the commission of Christ that they not only followed Jesus themselves, but led others to follow him, too.” Robert Coleman in the The Master Plan of Evangelism
Very literally, what Jesus was telling His disciples in Matthew 28 was “As you do life, as you go, make disciples.”
“A disciple did not merely want to know what his master knew, but do what his master did.” Ray Van dear Laan
A disciple of Jesus is not someone who simply wants to know what Jesus taught, he or she also wants to do what Jesus did, to live as Jesus lived.
You can help make disciples just by setting an example and by the words that you say to others to encourage and build them up.
Our opportunities to make disciples and to grow as a disciple is not about how great our ability is, it’s how great our availability is to Gods Holy Spirit.
Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:
When you hear the word disciple, what comes to mind?
Have you ever thought of yourself as a disciple? What's something new or different you can do to grow as a disciple?
Have you ever thought of yourself as a disciple maker? What's something new or different you can do to make disciples?
