Episode 8

Tim Elmore wrote a great book called “The Eight Paradoxes of Great Leadership.” In it he looks at different qualities that could seem to be contradictory, but actually help balance each other. They are also qualities that every great leader needs in their life. I encourage you to pick up a copy to see how he describes them in detail, and the examples of leaders who illustrate these qualities well.

The third paradox he mentions is visibility and invisibility. Watch the video for a quick explanation and then consider these questions:

  • Would you consider words or actions more important when it comes to motivating your team?

  • Is there one that you feel you could do a better job with?

  • Is visibility uncomfortable for you in leadership? In other words, do you like being the one who is seen? If not, how do you struggle with it?

  • Is stepping back more difficult for you? How are you preparing potential leaders and getting out of the way to let them lead?

Comment and share your answers to the questions above. Let us know if you have any additional thoughts or questions.
