Scriptures used: Hebrews 12:1-3; 2 Corinthians 4:17; Hebrews 1:2-4; 3:1-6; 1 Peter 5:8

  • Jesus is greater than anything, over all things, and bigger than whatever you face - your struggle, your temptation, your weakness, your hardship - so fix your eyes on Him.

  • There are things in this life that want to distract our attention from Jesus, that's why we must stay alert.

  • There are some things that ned to be thrown off, done away with, put out of reach. If it slows us down in our pursuit of Christ, it's a hindrance.

  • If we view Jesus as a religious exercise then all that we do is within our power. If we view Jesus as better, then our spiritual life becomes an adventure as we follow Him.

  • Resisting the things that would try to take our eyes off Jesus means we cannot justify, rationalize, ignore or blame. We have to confess and turn away.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Do you find yourself trying to be your own salvation or have you truly given everything to Jesus?

  • What are some things that distract your focus from Jesus that you need to throw out of your life?

  • When it comes to sin in your life, how do you justify, rationalize, ignore or blame?

This devotional focuses on areas of our lives that we need to surrender to God so that we can live the lives He wants us to live—lives of freedom, hope, and love. The devotionals are inspired by my song "I Surrender" which draws from scripture after scripture that talk about trusting God and staying focused on Him. I invite you to join with me through these five days as we work on surrendering fear, distraction, control, and selfishness so God can use us to be the change for a better world.
