Scriptures used: Matthew 18:21-35; 2 Corinthians 2:10-11; Hebrews 12:15

  • If God's forgiveness is free why do we charge for ours?

  • The offender can’t always make right the offense they’ve caused, but the offended can always show mercy.

  • Forgiveness is giving to others what God has given us. The gospel isn’t just receiving forgiveness, it’s also giving forgiveness.

  • What changes someone’s heart is not an eye for an eye, it’s grace!

  • “In the shadow of my hurt, forgiveness feels like a decision to reward my enemy, but in the shadow of the cross, forgiveness is merely a gift from one undeserving soul to another.” Andy Stanley

  • A transformed heart should result in offering the same mercy and forgiveness to others who do not deserve it.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • How has unforgiveness created bitterness in you and possibly made you vulnerable to sin?

  • Why do you think we lean more to getting revenge than we do offering forgiveness?

  • How does it impact you to know that God's forgiveness is voided by our unforgiveness?

  • Is there anyone that you have not forgiven that you need to forgive, that you need to show the gospel of forgiveness?
