The law is a diagnostic. It points us in the right direction but it's powerless to cure.
God's law is holy, but it is not the power of our salvation. Salvation only comes through Christ's finished work on the cross - His death and resurrection.
“You must always keep the law in its proper place. We preach good works with all our might as the result of faith, as the outgrowth of faith, but not as the groundwork of salvation.” Charles Spurgeon
We should live our lives out of God’s truth and walk in grace.
The grace of God forgives us and then through the power of the Holy Spirit compels us to not just be forgiven, but to become more like Christ. Grace puts you in a relationship that distances you from sin.
Being in Christ and covered by his righteousness is our position and our privilege as followers of Christ. This privileged position calls for daily personal practice. It’s God’s provision and our practice.
In Christ we have a clear identity and we have an eternal destiny.
Position yourself in Christ, and let Christ’s Spirit live powerfully through you.
Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:
Have you ever had a medical scan that diagnosed your problem? What change or solution did the diagnosis lead you to?
If the Old Testament law is like a diagnostic, what does it reveal about us in our humanity?
What do you think it means to clothe yourself in Christ? How do you do that on a daily basis?
