Greatest of these - an uncomfortable love

Sharable notes for the October 24, 2021 message. You can post these notes on your social platform!

Scriptures used: Amos 1:1, 5:18-24, 7:10, 14-15; Luke 4:18-20; Romas 3:22-24

  • If we want the presence of God we have to take sin seriously. Not just the popular sin, but all sin.

  • What we really believe about God is not demonstrated by how we worship on Sunday, but how we live during the rest of the week. Sunday should be a continuation of every day, not a mask to cover those days up.

  • A.W. Tozer said this, “Christians don’t tell lies, they just go to church and sing them.”

  • If we have experienced the forgiveness and love of Jesus Christ there should be a passion and a compassion that resonates from our life.

  • There is a call that comes with following Christ, that comes with being a child of God, and that call is one to care and love for others, even if that love pulls us out of our comfort zone.

  • Loving Christ means we are a people who are giving, hospitable, and who embrace others we may be more prone to avoid. (See Matthew 25:31-46)

  • We receive the righteousness of Christ and we represent His just love to the world.

  • Hide yourself in the Rock of Ages and be overwhelmed by his love, a love that moves us with compassion and justice.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • How do you define justice? What is the difference between Biblical justice and social justice or is there one?

  • What are ways we are prone to go through the motions in our faith?

  • Biblical justice requires some things of us - to show no partiality, not make assumptions about others, engagement with others even if it pulls us out of our comfort zone, an open mind and heart to be led by God. Which of these areas is the most difficult for you, or do you battle with?
