Scriptures used: Malachi 1:2, 13; 2:7-9, 10-16, 17; 3:6-12; 4:2; Mark 9:20-24; 2 Samuel 24:24; 1 Peter 2:9; Luke 1:76-78; Ephesians 1:13-14

  • “And still He (God) seeks the fellowship of His people and will send them both joy and sorrow to detach their hands from the things of this world and to attach those hands to Himself.” J.I. Packer

  • Does our life worship God with zeal and passion or have we fallen into a state of apathy and complacency towards Him?

  • The testing of our faith is not for God to know where we stand, it’s for us to know where we stand.

  • When impatience kicks in, wisdom gets kicked out.

  • We can still go through the religious motions without having a spiritual connection. Our faith is about a relationship not a list of tasks to complete.

  • There’s never a point where our questions bother God, but we cannot let our lack of understanding lead us to a place where we question God’s character and his love, where it affects our trust in Him.

  • “In the light of the cross, the greatest insult you can give to God is to doubt his love for you!” JC Ryle

  • If God’s love towards us was given and taken away the same way we give and take away, we would have lost God’s love a long time ago.

  • Our giving is a barometer of our hearts.

  • We may have resolve, but resolve is not enough. We need rebirth.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • How do you respond when someone points out your shortcomings? Is it different when it's someone you love and that you know loves you?

  • How has someone who loves you helped you to grow and change in positive ways?

  • Have you ever found yourself going through the motions in your walk with Christ? What did you do to come out of that, or what can you do if your stuck in that situation now?

  • How has the love of God brought healing into your life?
