Scriptures used: Acts 16:13-15, 40; Romans 12:13
Passages referenced: Hebrews 13:2
Hospitality is not just a five star characteristic, it should be a characteristic of every follower of Christ.
A heart opened by the truth of God's word should be a heart that's open to serve others with the hospitality of God's grace.
“Those who do nothing for Christ or his church, give but sorry evidence of an “opened” heart. Lord, evermore give me an opened heart.” Charles Spurgeon
It's better to kill people with kindness than run them away with rudeness.
During the birth of the early church, hospitality was highly valued and it was absolutely necessary for the expansion of the gospel, for the fellowship of the church and for the image of the church to the world. It should be no different today.
Hospitality means taking a genuine interest in others and welcoming them in the moment and possibly into your life.
You never know how far your gift of hospitality has the potential to go.
Generous hospitality has the power to transform lives and it has the power to create community and belonging.
Hospitality and kindness is something we all want to receive, but when Christ changes our life we understand our life has to be more centered around what we give than what we get.
Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:
What is one of the greatest experiences in your travels or everyday adventures that you've ever had? What made it a great experience?
How important is hospitality to you when you visit someone or some place? How much does it weigh on whether or not you return?
How important do you think hospitality should be for the follower of Christ to exhibit? Why do you answer that way?
How has hospitality from Christians and the church helped you in your faith journey? How has it discouraged you? How does the way you answer those questions challenge you in your own life towards others?
