It doesn’t matter if we’re more nice than naughty - without Christ, we’re still sinners in need of saving.
We have to understand the reality of sin because sin is what separates us from the Father. If we don’t understand the holiness of God we’ll always have a casual approach to sin.
God takes sin seriously.
The gospel is not, “If you’ve got a few problems, try Jesus.” The gospel is “You are a sinner who needs Jesus.” We are separated from God because of our sins, but the gospel, the good news, tells us of the gracious provision that God has made in His Son, who became our High Priest.
Prior to Jesus' death on the Cross, the Father "passed over" the sins of the people, but through Jesus, the Father now pardons our sins. Prior to Jesus’ death on the cross, the Father in a sense provided the people "forgiveness on credit,” but our high priest, Jesus Christ, has paid the debt of our sin in full.
The validity of Christianity is not based on imperfect Christians but on the perfect Christ.
The sacrifice of our will is so much better than the sacrifice of our soul. When we take the step to honor the sacrifice of the King and High Priest Jesus Christ, what we gain in return is far greater than what we lose.
Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:
What do you know about frankincense? If you use oils, do you use this and what for?
Have you ever mediated for someone? Explain what that was like?
Have you ever had someone mediate for you in a situation, maybe a lawyer. What was that like?
How does it feel to know that Jesus Christ mediated for you as a High Priest with God the Father? Have you ever put much thought in what that means for you? How would you describe that to someone?
