Scriptures used: John 10:17-18; 11:45-53; Matthew 16:24-26; Philippians 3:7-8; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 5:8-9
Passages referenced: John 11:25; Acts 6:7; Matthew 26:63-65;

  • Saying yes to God will cost you something, but saying no will cost you a whole lot more.

  • People don’t really fear change, they fear loss.

  • Jesus did not come to make us better versions of our sinful selves. He came to make us new. He came to transform us and change our lives.The problem is we don’t want to let go of things we need to let go of. We’re afraid of losing what we think they bring us.

  • Don't let what you're giving up for Christ cause you to miss what you're gaining in Christ.

  • Whenever we hold any thing with closed fists we fail to be open to what God has for us.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • How good are you at letting go of things?

  • What are some things you worry about losing because of Jesus?

  • Are you at peace in your relationship with God or are you feeling inadequate in some way? If you feel inadequate, what is one thing you can do this week to move toward being at peace with him?

Religion is about appearance and manipulation. Real faith is about surrendering your heart to the One who created you and cares about you more than anyone else in the universe. In this 5-day devotional, read about Caiaphas, a person who was very religious, yet in spite of the many opportunities given by God, did not have a relationship with God.
