Scriptures used: Luke 6:12-16; John 1:12; Jeremiah 17:9; John 12:1-11; Proverbs 28:13
Passages referenced: Luke 9:1; Matthew 26:6-16; John 13:1-17; John 18:1-8; Matthew 27:1-10; Luke 22:48

  • Jesus is more than a means to achieve something we think is important in our life. Jesus is the most important part of our life.

  • Hidden sin will only lead us further down a very dark road.

  • God not doing what we want God to do shouldn't become a reason for not believing God is who God says He is. It should become an opportunity to trust that God has a plan.

  • We don't know the meaning of true loss until we've traded Jesus for something we thought was more valuable.

  • Jesus has called everyone to be a part of the family of God. Your sin does not exclude you, and His love can transform you.

  • Being in the church does not mean we are in Christ. It's an important part of following Christ but it's not our salvation. Christ is our salvation. The church is our family we live out our salvation with.

  • The enemy gains access to our life only when we open the door.

  • Sorrow is not enough. We must be led to repentance.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • What are some things that you consider a means to an end in your life?

  • Do you think you've ever treated Jesus as a means to an end?

  • Has there ever been something that God didn't do the way you were hoping? How did you respond to that?

  • For what or whom are you tempted to trade your relationship with Christ? What is one thing you can do this week to surrender that part of your life to God?

At one point in our lives, we've all experienced the feeling of being abandoned, left out or betrayed. When people close to us are the ones that inflict these feelings, it’s even harder to overcome. In Plan 17 we see Jesus betrayed by those closest to Him. The different ways in which Jesus and those who betrayed Him responded gives us insight into different ways in which we may respond.
