Scriptures used: Hebrews 12:3-4; Hebrews 10:32-36; Psalm 34:18; James 1:2-4; Hebrews 4:15; James 4:6; Hebrews: 12:7,9; Matthew 26:39; Luke 22:44

  • God has given us his Truth to transform us and He has given us His Holy Spirit to empower us.

  • When you are suffering in your struggle, "consider Jesus who endured such opposition. When you are growing weary, remember Jesus. When you want to give up, remember the cross.

  • Just because you may be suffering or struggling it does not mean God has forsaken you. Remember it was in a Roman dungeon that Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

  • If you are struggling with following God’s will for your life, follow the example of Jesus (Matthew 26:39). Submission to God's will and plan for our lives, even when it may be difficult, brings us joy and peace.

  • Jesus' sacrifice of love covers our sins and connects us to God. Sin infects our lives, but Jesus perfects our lives.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Do you feel like you are going through a struggle right now? How so?

  • How is this struggle causing you to take your eyes off Jesus?

  • When is it hard for you to follow the will of God for your life?

  • How does the example of Jesus encourage you to follow God's will?

In our busy lives, suffering is considered an unwelcome guest. But could suffering really be a blessing from God? Because Christ suffered, we should also expect to suffer as we live for him. God will sustain us in our suffering and will use our suffering as a means to help us grow into the Christian he needs us to be in order to impact his world.
