Scriptures used: Acts 4:23-31; Psalms 46:1-3,5-6,10; Acts 5:30-31; 1 Peter 3:14-16; Titus 3:1-2; 2 Timothy 2:24-25
“The fence that keeps us from breaking out of our comfort zones is nearly always built of fear - fear of weakness, discomfort, failure, humiliation...True courage is not the absence of fear. It is refusing to allow fear to control your actions.” Alex & Brett Harris in Do Hard Things
When you are walking with the Spirit prayer should be your natural reflex. Prayerlessness is not a self-discipline problem, it’s a relationship problem.
Rather than asking what do I need to do to pray more, we need to ask ourselves how dependent am I on God?
Every difficult situation we face is under God's dominion.
Eugene Peterson, “God has already spoken in his word… prayer is just a response to what he has said.”
Believing the gospel makes you generous and bold. Generosity comes from the cross. Boldness comes from the resurrection.
The more we let the Holy Spirit shake us the less we will be shaken by the world.
Boldness is not synonymous with rudeness. Our boldness should be clothed with gentleness.
Make it applicable:
- Take advantage of opportunities
- Create opportunities
- Get involved in service and missions
- Pray for boldness
Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:
How often do you pray for boldness in your faith? Is that a prayer you're comfortable praying or does it challenge you to pray for that?
When you think of being filled with the Spirit, what thoughts come to your mind? What is your understanding of being filled with the Spirit?
What practical step can you take today to begin to walk more in boldness with your faith?
