  • “Is it really true that that which the early church so depended on for success - the leadership of the Spirit - has become irrelevant to us today?” John Newton

  • The Holy Spirit was a continuing promise for all generations and He was a promise not just for the Jews but for all people.

  • There is a baptism of the Holy Spirit when we become followers of Christ that immerses us into a relationship with the Father through what Christ did and into His body, the body of Christ.

  • Don’t allow not understanding praying in the Spirit to keep you from being receptive to the Holy Spirit and receiving the gift of being baptized in the Spirit.

  • We often don’t allow ourselves to be led by the spirit because we are still led by our fleshly desires. If we are being led by the spirit that means we have to take ourselves out of the leadership position.

  • Willfulness must decrease, cease and ultimately die if we are to walk in the fullness of the Spirit.

  • Watchman Nee, “Real greatness rests not on how much we have but on how much we have lost. Authentic life can be seen only in the abandonment of self.”

  • The Holy Spirit is just as much about who He wants us to be as much as He is about what He wants us to do.

  • The Holy Spirit will lead us to put to death things in our life. But that same Holy Spirit will lead us to new life in Christ.

  • If we are led by the spirit we will be producing a fruit that represents the spirit.

  • The Holy Spirit illuminates God’s word and gives us more understanding so we can be led by the Spirit as He helps us understand God’s word and grow in Him.

  • We are led by the Spirit when we worship, pray, and fast.

  • We are led by the Spirit when we are a part of the body.

  • God has given you a gift to use in His mission. If we disconnect ourselves from the church, we are disconnecting ourselves from the Spirit of God because the Spirit works through the body.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • When you think of receiving the Holy Spirit, is your thought you receive Him when you begin to follow Christ, or have you seen it as a separate gift?

  • What aspects of the Holy Spirit that you see in the New Testament are you unsure about or have you been unreceptive towards? Why do you think that is?

  • How would you describe your hunger for what you want the Holy Spirit to do in and through your life?

In this 28-day devotional based on Pastor Robert Morris's sermon series and book by the same name, The God I Never Knew is a look at the most misunderstood person of the trinity: the Holy Spirit. Pastor Robert uses personal stories and biblical evidence to share how the Holy Spirit intercedes for us and through us and desires a relationship with us.
